Old Ezra 7 is a newer addition to the Ezra Brooks lineup, and was released in 2018 to replace the discontinued Old Ezra 7  Year 101 proof. It sports a fancy new bottle and label, and while keeping the 7 year age statement it packs in some more heat at 117 proof…just what every Tater needs! It is an allocated bourbon that you rarely see on the shelf, but if you do you’d better grab one. Tater Justin shares his first experience: “I still remember the first bottle I spotted on the shelf while down in Florida on vacation. I did the most non-tatery thing one can do. I left it on the shelf all by itself, but don’t worry I redeemed myself the next day and was glad to see it still sitting there when I returned!” We’ve all been there. In the short amount of time Old Erza 7 has been on the scene it has made its way onto the Whiskey Advocate Top 20 Whiskies of 2019, coming in at 7th place with 94 points. We recently got to sit down with Lux Row Master Distiller John Rempe and do a tasting of Rebel Yell Distillers Collection, what an awesome experience. Tater level 10! Lets here what John has to say about Old Ezra 7:

This one is our standard rye bourbon mashbill. It’s a  sweeter bourbon, but is balanced out nicely with a little bit of rye. We just kinda redid this one several years ago. It’s a great beautiful new bottle, with a beautiful new label. We changed our barrel selection source to get some more high quality barrels in it. Definitely pick yourself up a bottle, you won’t regret it at all. Cheers!

The bottle we tried had very nice caramel and cherry notes on the nose. It had a very classic and complex taste on the palate. With notes of chocolate, baking spice, vanilla, and oak. The finish really lingers, almost buttery, with cinnamon spice and corn. Lux Row has done a great job with this revamped Old Ezra 7. This bottle would sit well in any Taters collection!

VERDICT: 4 Taters

SCALE:

5 Taters: Load that bunker. The kids can pay for their own college.

4 Taters: You’d better have a bottle to keep around.

3 Taters: I’ve been wanting to try it, I guess I’ll snag a bottle.

2 Taters: What’s better than drinking your own whiskey? Drinking your friend’s.

1 Tater: Maybe today is just a beer run.
